The waterfall here is a small one, with two separate cascades of water falling into a lagoon ringed with some of the most interesting basalt formations in Iceland. The columns are twisted and curved around the falls, forming a large basin. These are some of the most interesting columnar basalt formations — others can be found at Svartifoss, the coast near Arnarstapi, and near dozens of other waterfalls.
The falls are a mere 9 meters (31 feet) high.
