East Africa Safari 2018

Three weeks in Kenya and Tanzania

Lodging

One of the best parts about planning this trip was being able to pick from the many fabulous camps. Some are like stepping back in time or living in a movie. “Camps” is a bit misleading for most of them (although there are fly camps that are legitimately portable tents). We’re staying in mid-range to pretty plushy camps: they all have canvas tents with wooden floors and furniture, with en-suite bathrooms (even actual toilets!). These are outdoor hotels, and from the reviews I have read, they are four- and five-star hotels.  We are really excited!  Some of the places even have animals wandering through at night.

After reading just about every review out there (ATR – Africa Travel Resources has a great interactive site, and Expert Africa has personal reviews of many camps, among many others.

We will be staying at:

The Emakoko

This camp is located in the Nairobi National Park, just outside of the city. We’re staying here for two days.

Lewa Wilderness Lodge

We fly up to the Lewa Wilderness lodge and spend two and a half days here–including a bi-plane ride on their iconic yellow Out-of-Africa biplane.

Namiri Plains Camp

There are lots of cheetahs near this camp, I have been told. Two days — hope we see them!
