Strangely, someo f the inscriptions are cut very deeply into the walls — sometimes as deep as eight inches. He followed Ramesses II’s model of cutting them deeply in order to prevent a later pharaoh from usurping the monument, although he went even deeper than Ramesses II did!

Most of the pillars in the hypostyle hall were removed by Copts when they built a church in the temple. They plastered over most of the reliefs inside (which is nice, since they usually chipped them off instead of just covering them!). Some of the pillars that remain are still brightly colored.
